Unleash Your Adventurous Side With the Bronco Sport
For many of us, nothing gets our blood pumping and puts a smile on our face quite like splashing through creeks, playing in the mud, and enjoying some quality outdoor time in a dependable off-road SUV. While the midsize Ford Bronco is the king of the trail in our eyes, the subcompact Bronco Sport is a fantastic option if you want something smaller that still delivers impressive off-road chops.
In fact, the more modest size of the Bronco Sport may make it a better pick for trails that have tight quarters that are easier to navigate in something smaller. To fully appreciate everything the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport has to offer, let’s take a closer look at some of its most exciting features to see how they can transform your daily drive and your next big adventure.
Sporty Performance
Few subcompact SUVs out there have an engine setup worth talking much about, but few other SUVs are designed to take you where the Bronco Sport can. The standard engine in this beauty is a 1.5L Turbo I-3 that offers 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque, providing a fantastic driving experience for both work and play.
This is plenty of power for most drivers, and it comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and responsive drive. Being an adventurous vehicle from front to back, every Ford Bronco Sport comes with four-wheel drive (4×4) standard, so you don’t have to pay more for the performance you deserve.
If you’re looking for an elevated driving experience, then there’s an available 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine that roars to life with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This is a beast in such a small SUV, and it delivers power that you won’t find in most other subcompact SUVs.
This engine pairs with the same transmission, ensuring a great driving experience on the road or out on the trail, and both engines are designed for surprisingly rewarding fuel efficiency. While you can tow up to 2,000 lbs with the standard engine, the larger one gives you an additional 200 lbs of towing capacity for a little extra wiggle room when trailering.
Off-Road Capability
Despite its smaller size, there’s no doubt that Ford designed the Bronco Sport to be every bit as worthy of its name as the larger Bronco. That means it is ready to tear up the trail and take you where few other subcompact SUVs can dream to venture. A big part of this is the High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) that comes standard on every Bronco Sport trim.
This system features an independent front suspension, tall coil springs on all four corners to help improve articulation, and HOSS-tuned heavy-duty dampers designed to boost stability and take abuse while you’re out on the trail. The HOSS-tuned front and rear springs provide excellent wheel articulation, letting you remain in control no matter how rough the trail gets, while the front suspension with independent MacPherson struts and twin-tube hydraulic gas-pressurized shocks is designed to handle anything Mother Nature can throw at you.
The Badlands trim, in particular, is the ultimate expression of off-road performance for the Bronco Sport, with the more powerful engine and an advanced 4×4 system with a twin-clutch rear drive unit that provides even better traction and grip than the standard 4×4. You even get more modes for the Bronco Sport’s terrain management system…
The GOAT Modes
This terrain management system is what Ford calls its GOAT modes (“Goes Over Any [type of] Terrain”), and it lives up to its name in more ways than one. With a lot of vehicles out there, a strong terrain management system is something you’ll have to pay extra for or that you’ll only find in a particular setup—but with the Ford Bronco Sport, you get five GOAT modes standard, ensuring you’re ready for just about anything.
These modes adjust the Bronco Sport’s steering feel, throttle response, transmission shift points, and more to control how your vehicle handles and performs for you. The five standard modes are:
- Normal: The Bronco Sport always starts in Normal mode, which gives you balanced performance for everyday driving.
- Eco: If you want to enjoy a more conservative drive with optimal fuel efficiency, then Eco mode is for you.
- Sport: If you want to focus on acceleration and performance over gas mileage, then Sport mode is the way to go.
- Slippery: This mode gives you better traction and handling in slippery conditions like rain-slicked roads, but it shouldn’t be used on dry roads.
- Sand: This mode can lock your rear differential and is designed to provide you with balance between wheel spin and grip that’s ideal for sandy dunes and similar environs.
That’s more than enough control over performance and your driving experience for most folks. But if you’re looking to tackle some challenging trails, then you definitely want to check out the Badlands trim we mentioned a moment ago, as this one features two additional GOAT modes that you don’t get on other trims:
- Mud/Ruts: Much like Sand mode, Mud/Ruts mode locks the rear differential, puts the Bronco Sport into 4-High, and adjusts traction for uneven, wet, soft surfaces.
- Rock Crawl: This final mode is for handling extremely uneven terrain; it locks the rear differential, unlocks the stabilizer bar on the suspension, and puts the Bronco Sport in 4-Low to give you excellent traction and control for these situations.
With this setup, you’re ready to go just about anywhere you can imagine—and you’ll have a great time on your way there.
Innovative Tech
Even if you love hitting the trail, none of us can spend all of our time going off-road (no matter how hard we try), which is why the 2024 Bronco Sport also has great features for enjoying your everyday routine. Looking at the standard Big Bend trim, you get a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display along with a gorgeous 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Ford’s SYNC software that makes it easy to use for everything you need.
A six-speaker sound system is standard—which is perfect for a subcompact model like this—along with unique cloth seating that is easy to keep clean, plus advanced safety tech like a Blind Spot Information System.
If you go with something like the Outer Banks trim, then you get a number of enhanced features, starting with a larger 6.5-inch instrument display. You get a heated, premium-wrapped steering wheel in the Outer Banks, with heated front seats that include an eight-way power driver’s seat and a six-way power front passenger seat.
Additional tech features are also available, like a power moonroof and a wireless charging pad, and you can even get a ten-speaker B&O sound system for an incredible audio experience.
Are You Ready for What the Bronco Sport Can Do?
As you can see, the Ford Bronco Sport is much more than your typical daily driver of a subcompact SUV, giving you remarkable features inside and out to elevate your time behind the wheel. And yet, it’s also a great choice for your daily commute, getting your kids to and from school, or running errands on the weekend.
You can handle everything you need to do and still have an amazing vehicle that lets you do the things you want to do. It’s like Ford decided to create a vehicle that personifies work/life balance and delivers something that is designed to make your time on and off the road more rewarding. No matter where life takes you, the Bronco Sport is ready to get you there; all you have to do is get in, buckle up, and enjoy the drive.
