For most people, the power and capabilities of the legendary Ford F-150 are perfect for everything they are looking to do. If you need a hard-working truck with abilities beyond what the light-duty F-150 is capable of, however, then it’s time to check out the 2025 Ford F-250. This is a step up from the F-150 without going quite as far as the F-350 and its available dual-rear-wheel configuration; so if you don’t need all that but are looking for more than the F-150 can do, then you’re checking out the right model. With five different trim levels available, however, it can be tricky to figure out which F-250 model has everything you need to help you get your job done. Let’s take a closer look at each of these trims to see what they bring to the road and figure out which one is right for you.

2025 Ford F-250 XL––Starting Features and Options

No better place to start than at the base: the XL is the standard version of the F-250 and gives you the starting features that the other four trims build upon. You get the standard 6.8L V8 gas engine with the XL, which provides 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, making it an ideal way to tackle anything you need to do. It’s even been engineered to deliver peak torque at low RPM, making it ideal for towing and hauling a lot of weight across town. Every 2025 F-250 comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission for a smooth, highly responsive driving experience.

Rear-wheel drive (4×2) is standard for the F-250, with four-wheel drive (4×4) available if you prefer it or need enhanced traction to get to remote job sites. The XL comes with 17-inch wheels, although 18-inch and 20-inch wheels are available if you prefer a larger, bolder stance for your truck. Three other engine options are available for the 2025 Ford F-250, but we’ll get into those later as we look at the other trim levels. With its standard engine, the F-250 can handle up to 14,800 lbs of towing capacity and up to 4,240 lbs of maximum payload, which is worth keeping in mind when looking at all of your options.

Black bumpers and door handles are standard on the F-250 XL, along with a black front grille; chrome and body-color options are available but not standard. You also get a standard power locking tailgate on the back of this truck, with an available tailgate step and enhanced LED lighting offered. Inside, you’ll find a straightforward cabin, including a 4.2-inch Productivity Screen for you as the driver, an eight-inch infotainment display, and a sound system with four or six speakers, depending on the cab size you choose. Vinyl seating is standard, with cloth seating available, and you can choose from a variety of packages to enhance your truck’s features.

2025 Ford F-250 XLT––Stylish and Functional Enhancements

Moving up to the XLT trim, you get a number of upgrades and enhancements, though it still has a lot in common with the standard model. The XLT features the same standard engine with more options available. You’ll find 18-inch wheels on the XLT, with larger 20-inch wheels offered if you prefer something even bigger. Unlike the XL, you get chrome front and rear bumpers on the XLT, plus it comes with a Bright Chrome front grille for a gorgeous overall look that stands out in a crowd. There are still plenty of upgrades available for this trim, including step bars and running boards along the sides, a Tough Bed spray-in bedliner, and more.

Inside, you get a number of upgrades with the XLT, including standard cloth seating featuring a front 40/20/40 split-bench seat. You can get 40/console/40 front seating if you prefer, with heated front seats available, plus an interior work surface if you need something for added functionality at various job sites. The XLT comes with Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and a Forward Collision Warning (this is available for the XL but not included), which helps keep you safer on the road so you can do your job.

2025 Ford F-250 Lariat––More Refined Inside and Out

If you like the standard engine for the F-250 but want more features to enhance your driving experience, then the Lariat is a great one to check out. Although 18-inch wheels are standard again with this model, you get body-color door handles to go along with the chrome bumpers and a Bright Chrome front grille with chrome inserts. LED fog lamps and reverse taillamps are standard on the Lariat, plus there’s an available TREMOR Off-Road package that includes 35-inch Off-Road Tires and much more. Inside the Lariat, you’ll find an enhanced cabin with dual-zone automatic temperature control, a 12-inch LCD Productivity Screen, and a 12-inch Infotainment display with Enhanced Voice Recognition. An eight-speaker B&O sound system is included with this trim, along with ActiveX seating that looks and feels great, with eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seating, and more.

2025 Ford F-250 King Ranch––More Power, More Features

There’s a lot to like about the King Ranch model, though the standout feature is likely the 7.3L V8 engine that comes standard on it, providing you with 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the F-250 can handle up to 17,200 lbs of towing and up to 4,246 lbs of maximum payload when properly equipped, so keep that in mind. The King Ranch comes with massive 20-inch wheels, accent-color front and rear bumpers, plus power-deployable running boards to make getting in and out easier. The remote locking and opening tailgate includes a retractable step for easier access to the truck bed, and you get Pro Trailer Hitch Assist included to make towing simpler. Inside, the King Ranch is beautifully appointed with unique Kingsville leather seats, including an Easy Entry driver’s seat with memory settings. An incredible 14-speaker B&O sound system is included with this model, along with enhanced safety tech like a Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert that includes Trailer Coverage when towing.

2025 Ford F-250 Platinum––Ultimate Expression of the F-250

Finally, the Platinum trim is the perfect choice if you need a truck that functions as a mobile office and lets you stay connected at all times. This model also comes with the 7.3L V8 gas engine; like previous models, a 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel is available. This Turbo Diesel delivers 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque while allowing you to haul 22,900 lbs behind your truck. You can also choose a High Output (HO) version of this engine that provides 500 hp and an incredible 1,200 lb-ft of torque, with up to 23,000 lbs of max towing. If you need ultimate power, then these diesel engines are the way to go.

You’ll find incredible details inside and out with the Platinum, including LED projector headlights, LED box lighting for the bed, and much more. The interior features the same large displays as the previous two models and the 14-speaker sound system, plus unique Black Onyx/Platinum Blue leather seating that looks stunning and feels incredible. An available Max Recline 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat takes comfort to the next level, plus you can get a Pro Power Onboard system to power devices and equipment everywhere you go.
