Tire Shop

A mechanic and customer are at a tire shop going over tire options for her vehicle.

How often do you think about your vehicle’s tires? Probably not as often as you should. Drivers are often relatively diligent about making sure their vehicle is up to date when it comes to oil changes, but a lot of drivers tend to neglect their tires. But, when you think about it, the tires take the brunt of every drive and should receive close attention from any vehicle owner. If it’s been a while since you’ve checked up on your tires, you are not alone! If you’re unsure of where to start, then you’ll want to stop by our tire shop to have a pro take a look. There are a number of ways you can tell when it’s time for new tires, and we’ll help make sure you know the signs to watch out for. And when it comes to replacing your tires, it’s important to understand which kinds of tires you need. You don’t want to put just any old tires on a vehicle that requires special tires. Come on into our tire shop right here at Loganville Ford. We’ll make sure that your vehicle is good to go!

Signs You Need New Tires

Part of the reason a lot of drivers tend to leave their tires unattended is because they don’t necessarily know what to look for. But, we’re here to help educate you so you do know what to look for! The good news is that you don’t need to be an expert mechanic to recognize these signs; anyone can do it!

The first, and perhaps most standard, way to identify whether or not your vehicle needs new tires is by paying attention to the grip as you drive. If you’re observing that the tires aren’t properly gripping and your traction is decreasing, that’s a key indicator that your tires may be worn out. A lot of the time, it’s as simple as identifying that the tires don’t seem to be working as they should be. But, if you’re unsure, there are some extra things you can investigate to see what kind of shape your tires are really in.

The first thing you’ll want to check is the tires’ tread depth. As a general rule, the tire should always have 2/32s of an inch tread depth across all sections of the tire. Now, 2/32nds of an inch is quite a precise measurement, and you may be wondering how on earth you would be able to measure such a minuscule amount. There is actually an easy trick to do this. What you’ll want to do is find a penny, point it downward so Mr. Lincoln’s head is pointed downwards toward the tire, and insert it between two tread blocks. If the top of Mr. Lincoln’s head is covered, your tires are doing just fine; but, if you can see the top of his head, then you’ve dipped below the 2/32nds of an inch measurement, and your tread is worn out, meaning it’s time for new tires.

Another thing to look out for is whether or not the interior support of your tires is starting to show. Inside the rubber of tires, there is usually some combination of steel and fabric, which serve as shape-holding materials. If you’re starting to see steel or fabric, then your need for new tires is imminent, and they should be replaced right away. Additionally, if you’re seeing larger-than-usual cracks between your tread blocks, that’s a key sign that your tires are overextended.

While this list is not exhaustive, these methods provide you with easy and accessible ways to check on the health of your tires. And, of course, if you’re unsure, have questions, or want a pro to take a look, you can always bring them into our service center.

Know Your Tire Types

If you’re looking to have your vehicle’s tires replaced, it’s important to understand the different types of tires. While you could get into the weeds of very specialized tires, there are a few general tire types that you’ll want to be aware of:

  • All-Season Tires: These tires are designed, as the name suggests, to perform all year round, whether it’s sunny, snowy, or rainy. They are a fantastic option for those who don’t want to switch out their tires at the change of the season and don’t need anything too specialized.
  • All-Terrain Tires: Though these tires may wear out a little bit quicker than other tire types, all-terrain tires provide performance capability for both on-road and off-road driving; if you’ve got an adventurous flare and want to explore beyond the road, there’s no question that you’ll need all-terrain tires for your vehicle.
  • Performance Tires: While you may be inclined to think performance tires would work for off-roading as well, these tires are designed for speed drivers and could actually be hazardous if used for an off-road venture. That said, if you’ve got a racer’s heart, then getting some performance tires on your car will give you the support you need.
  • If you’re not sure what type of tires you want, simply ask one of the professionals in our service center, and we’ll make sure to get you the exact tires you need!

Our Tire Services

Loganville Ford is here to provide for all of your tire servicing needs. Whether you need a check-up, a rotation, or a replacement, our team is ready to tackle the job. Certain types of damage don’t necessarily require a replacement, and staying on top of routine tire maintenance will elongate your vehicle’s tire life, making replacements fewer and further between. But, when it is time for a replacement, we’ve got the tires you need.

If you find yourself with a hole or a puncture in your tire, it doesn’t necessarily need to be completely replaced. Depending on the size, type, and location of the hole, our team can get it patched up for you so you’re ready to hit the open road with confidence. Of course, if the hole is significant enough, it may require a more significant repair or even a replacement. But if you bring it to us, we’ll make sure the tire gets exactly what it needs.

When was the last time your vehicle had a tire rotation? If it’s been a while, we’ll take care of that right away for you. Depending on the transmission type of your vehicle, it is highly likely that some tires are getting more wear and tear than others on your car. So, rotating them on occasion ensures that your tires are wearing evenly, and you don’t have to replace individual tires at random points in time. Every vehicle is different, but, in general, this service should be done when you get an oil change.

Sometimes, your tires can get a bit off-kilter from the different types of use they get while driving. If your tires need to be re-balanced or re-aligned, we’ll make sure they are all properly in order and running in ship shape. Whatever your needs may be, our team is ready to serve you.
