The Great Comfort and Convenience Features of the 2025 Ford Explorer

A family is walking near a blue 2025 Ford Explorer ST parked on a campsite near a lake.

Some families and friends just about live inside of their three-row SUVs. Parents who do drop offs at multiple schools and afterschool activities each day, adventurous friends always looking for the next great weekend road trip, or professionals who take appointments all over town, many drivers and riders spend what feels like more time in their SUVs than at home or the office. If this sounds like you and your crew, then you should seek out a Ford Explorer for sale.

The Ford Explorer has been a popular three-row SUV since its release in 1991. Car and Driver recently listed it on its roundup of the best three-row SUVs for 2024 and 2025, and in 2023, Kelley Blue Book reported that the Explorer was the best-selling SUV in America of all time. If you’ve ever spent time in one, then you know why. Ford puts a lot of time and thought into creating features that make the Explorer an absolute pleasure to be in. For the 2025 year, Ford has upped the ante and redesigned their popular large SUV with comfort and convenience features we think you’re really going to love. Let’s take a look!

Heated, Ventilated, and Massaging Seats

Have you always looked at those fancy home recliner seats on the market and wished you could have one yourself? Well, you can get one in your SUV. The 2025 Ford Explorer is available with heated and ventilated multi-contour seats with active motion massage for front-row passengers. Let’s break down those features briefly.

Heated and Ventilated: You don’t have to rely solely on the air coming out of the front vents to keep you comfortable on hot or cold days. Your seat will provide you with full-body warmth or cooling.

Multi-Contour: These seats contain air cushions in the back and bottom that support your legs and back. You have the freedom to customize how much air is in the chambers, receiving more or less support where you need it.

Active Motion Massage: Your 2025 Explorer comes with Active Motion Massage, the closest thing we can get to an in-vehicle masseuse. These seats create a subtle rolling motion across your legs and back, kneading out knots and working tension away while you drive.

If your family wonders why you sit in the car for 20 minutes after parking in the driveway, these luxury seats are the answer. They come standard on the ST and Platinum trim and are optional on the ST-Line model through the ST-Line Premium Package.

Second-Row Heated Seats & Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control

Need to keep second-row passengers comfortable on cold days? Get any trim above the ACTIV, and you’ll get standard second-row heated seats. We think this is a terrific feature for drivers who transport passengers they want to impress, like important clientele or employers. Getting them those heated rear seats is a nice touch that shows you consider the comfort of your passengers and minimizes the need to keep blankets in your SUV.

Thanks to the tri-zone automatic temperature control, the different rows can control their cabin climate, with different temperatures set between the driver, front passenger, and rear passenger seats. That’s a nice perk for rear-seat passengers and a nice perk for you as the driver, so you don’t have to deal with back-seat temperature change requests while you’re trying to focus on the road.

Second-Row Captain’s Seats With E-Z Entry and Armrests

Want to offer your passengers a true executive seating experience? Get the second-row captain’s seats with E-Z Entry and armrests. They open up many inches of space between them, making it easy for third-row passengers to go down the middle to get to their seats. They also slide forward for another way to give third-row passengers access to their seats, and the armrests give second-row passengers a comfortable place to keep their arms on a long drive. These are great features if you’re transporting adult passengers that you want to make an impression on. These seats are standard on the Platinum trim and available on all other trims.

Second-Row Sunblinds and a Twin-Panel Moonroof

Want the freedom to let in natural light when you want it and block it out when you don’t? Start by getting the second-row sunblinds. They’re available on the ST-Line and standard on the ST and Platinum trims. Simply put, they let your second-row passengers block out the sun when its rays are coming in too strongly. They’re great for the evening rush hour when the sun sets and hits the vehicle’s windows at just the wrong angle. Plus, they can create a dark, calm environment for those wanting to take naps.

Next, there’s the twin-panel moonroof, which is available on all trims. With this moonroof, you can open the glass panels on your roof and allow fresh air. It is split into two separate panels, and you can open it with the push of a button. You have full control over how far it opens, opening it only part way if you want a partial breeze or all the way if you want a full breeze.

First-Row Center Floor Console with Armrest and Storage Bin

If you do spend most of your day in your SUV, then you probably have many small items you need to reach for constantly. Think sunglasses, tissues, snacks, your wallet, hand sanitizer—the list goes on. Rather than letting those things create a mess in your front seat area, you can take advantage of the first-row center-floor console. It has several compartments of various sizes to keep your driving essentials on hand. Plus, it has armrests, so you and your front-seat passenger can be comfortable.

Third-Row PowerFold Seats

For times you only need two rows of seating and extra storage space, you can use the third-row PowerFold seats to extend that cargo area. You’ll find buttons on the wall of the cargo compartment for these seats. Just press the associated buttons, and the seats will automatically fold down—no need to manually push them. You can stow, fold, or lift them one at a time or both together. When your hands are full and all you can do is spare a finger to get those third-row seats down, you’ll love this simple feature. This feature is standard on the ST and Platinum trims and available on the ST-Line.
