The new year is shaping up to be an electrifying one for the Blue Oval, thanks to the arrival of the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning. Who says going green can’t look good? This eye-catching, eco-friendly, full-size truck is blazing its own path when it comes to electric vehicles. First introduced in 2021, The Lightning is Ford’s first all-electric truck and has been a hit with environmentalists and truck enthusiasts alike. But that wasn’t really a surprise considering the incredible popularity of its combustion engine cousin, the Ford F-150, which has topped the best-selling list for decades.

The Ford F-150 Lightning was designed to help truck drivers wanting to transition to electricity without giving up the model they love. This electric pickup has no problem delivering the same levels of power and performance as the traditional F-150. But with zero emissions, it’s in a league of its own. Once you check out the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, we think you’ll agree that there has never been a better time to go green.

Charging

Making Charging Easy

What’s one of the things that make people hesitate when it comes to switching over from gas to electric vehicles? Most of the time, they’ll say it has to do with charging. After all, gas stations are everywhere, but what about charging stations? Whether you want to charge at home or on the road, Ford makes it easier than ever.

The Ford Charge Station Pro can be installed in your garage or driveway and can take your truck’s battery from 15% to 100% in just eight hours, providing roughly 30 miles of range per hour of charging. This makes it easy to come home, plug in, and relax for the night, knowing your truck will be ready in the morning. The charger can easily be installed inside or outside thanks to its weatherproof case. The 25-foot cable lets you easily plug in your vehicle without straining.

The Charging Station Pro also allows for Intelligent Backup Power. What’s this mean? If your home loses power because of a storm or blackout, you can harness your truck’s battery to keep your fridge cold and your house warm for over a week!

Charging on the Go

When you’re on the go, the available Mobile Power Cord lets you conveniently charge your vehicle away from home. This can plug into any 120v or 240v outlet, but it recharges more slowly than a dedicated charging station. It takes roughly 20 hours to take the extended-range battery from 15% to 100%. If you don’t have that kind of time, you can always stop at a public charging station along the way.

The BlueOval Charge Network gives drivers access to over 75,000 charging stations across USA and Canada, and the FordPass App can help you plan your route and see charging stations along the way. With a DC Fast Charging station, you can charge from 15% to 80% in 41 minutes with the extended-range battery or 36 minutes with the standard-range battery.

Capability and Performance

Thanks to the Ford F-150 Lightning’s advanced technology, you can easily reduce your carbon footprint without losing out on the power and performance that the F-150 is famous for. You can expect to travel 240 miles with the standard-range battery. If that’s not enough, no problem. The F-150 Lighting is all about flexibility and options. For those long days, you can equip your Lightning with the available extended-range battery and enjoy an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles.

The Lightning easily crushes the rumors that electric vehicles can’t keep up with their gas-engine counterparts. In fact, Ford’s electric truck offers more power than ever before with its available 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Even the base model provides 452 hp. When it comes to quick acceleration, you will be thrilled to learn that the Lightning offers the fastest launch of any Ford truck, going up to 60 mph in less than four seconds.

Let’s not overlook one of the Lighting’s impressive Enhanced Pro Power Onboard. This feature gives drivers 9.6 kW of power, more than enough for power tools, camping gear, or anything the situation might call for. The 11 available power outlets include two 120v outlets in the cab, four 120v outlets in the Mega Power Funk (that’s the front trunk), and four 120v and one 240v outlet in the bed. If that’s not enough, the Lightning has even more options to connect thanks to the Mega Power Funk’s USB-C and USB-A outlets.

Towing, Hauling, and Off-Roading

The strength of this electric truck is apparent from the start. Just check out the high-strength steel frame and subframe that together makes the Lightning the strongest F-150 to date. If you find that your day often involves a variety of terrains, the Lightning is up for the task. The truck’s selectable driver modes let you switch between Normal, Sport, Tow Haul, and Off-Road, making it easy to customize your ride in any situation. Thanks to the Lighting’s 8.4 inches of ground clearance, you can be sure that the truck’s battery and inner workings are protected against mud, water, and snow.

One thing we can’t forget to mention is the Lightning’s incredible towing abilities. The 2023 F-150 Lightning is a beast with a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs and a max payload of 2,235 lbs. Thanks to the advanced technology in this truck, towing is safer and easier than ever. Pro Trailer Backup Assist lets you tell your truck where to go by simply turning a knob. You can have your trailer straightened out and backed up in no time. The Trailer Brake Controller automatically applies the trailer brakes when you press the brake pedal. Smart Hitch works in combination with the FordPass App to help you distribute the weight of your load. Last but not least, Onboard Scales enables you to keep weight in mind, so you know exactly how much you’re towing.

Technology

User-Friendly and Up-To-Date

The advanced tech of the 2023 Ford Lightning is at the very heart of the truck. The user-friendly SYNC 4A infotainment system with its 15.5-inch touchscreen is where it’s at. This system comes standard on the LARIAT and Platinum trims and is well worth it. With built-in navigation and real-time updates on road conditions, it’s easy to stay informed while staying focused on the road. However, the lower trims aren’t lacking with the standard 12-inch display.

You can seamlessly sync your compatible smartphone with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for a personalized driving experience. Easily access apps and playlists or send and receive calls and texts. Phone as a Key is just another way drivers can connect with their trucks. This allows you to use your phone instead of a traditional keyfob!

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite of standard driver-assist features is designed to give you extra peace of mind on the road. Available technology includes Ford BlueCruise hands-free driving, BLIS with Trailer Coverage, Active Park Assist, and much, much more! When drivers connect with the Blue Oval, they get the confidence of knowing when they drive, they’re never alone.

Comfort and Convenience

A Comfortable Driving Experience

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is made not only to perform but also to create a comfortable driving experience. Thanks to its convenient storage, ample cabin room, and user-friendly technology, there’s something for everyone to love about the all-new Lightning.

The Lightning is capable of seating up to five passengers in its standard SuperCrew cab without crowding. The roomy cabin provides plenty of legroom and headroom in the front and back seats, creating a comfortable ride for everyone. The Lighting was designed to make use of every inch of space. Check out the under-seat storage space located beneath the second row of seats. The rear seat flips up to reveal additional room for tools, emergency kits, and anything else you might need.

While pickup trucks aren’t always known for their storage options, the Lighting seeks to change that with its multiple storage compartments that make bringing along extra gear, luggage, or daily essentials simple. Looking at the truck’s Mega Power Frunk (that’s a trunk in the front), the cargo capacity beats out any other electric truck on the market. The Frunk is water-resistant and can hold a payload of up to 400 lbs. Plus, with four 120v outlets and two USB chargers, it’s easy to plug in devices to charge while you drive.

Attention to Detail

Ford’s attention to detail is apparent throughout. From the driver-centered design to the quality of upholstery and color choices, the F-150 Lightning doesn’t sacrifice form for function and has plenty of both to go around. Small things like grab handles make getting in and out of the cabin easier, while the available twin-panel moonroof lets in the sunshine and gives everyone a great view.

If you find you’re in your truck more than your office, then you’ll be happy to know the Lightning is ready to make your workday a little more convenient with an interior work surface that lets your truck double as your office. The folding console surface provides more than enough room for a laptop or to use as a desk to sign papers.

Are you looking to shed some light on your next adventure? The 2023 Lightning is loaded with LED lighting to brighten your path. The available LED Box Lighting with Enhanced Zone Lighting means if you’re loading up your truck bed at night or before the sun rises, you’ll have no problem seeing what you’re doing. Once on the road, the truck’s vibrant LED Dynamic Bending Headlamps adjust to help you have a clear view ahead. On the inside, available ambient lighting sets the mood for your next night’s drive.
